Environmental law is a complex, ever changing body of federal,
state and local legislation and regulations for the protection
of the public interest in a clean environment. These laws
and regulations impact all of us, ranging from the multi-billion
dollar chemical manufacturing plant to the victims of environmental
abuse and neglect.
The law firm of Hudson & Watts, L.L.P., draws upon years
of experience in helping our clients navigate the maze of
environmental law and regulation. We represent clients in
regulatory compliance,
as well as litigation at
the administrative and judicial level. We have defended notices
of violation, orders of non-compliance, and penalty assessments,
as well as handled administrative appeals and other trial
and appellate proceedings concerning environmental issues.
The firm enjoys an excellent, working relationship with state
regulators at the Alabama Department of Environmental Management,
a relationship which enables the firm to counsel its clients
and represent their interests in finding solutions advantageous
to the client that are also attuned to the Agency's agenda.
Environmental law is multidisciplinary in nature, requiring
the skills of not only lawyers but also chemists, engineers,
real estate appraisers, and other consultants. Through the
years, Hudson and Watts, L.L.P., has developed relationships
with well-qualified professionals in these fields. The firm
can bring these scientists and other professionals to the
table to help the client find the best solution to the environmental
problem at hand.
Hudson & Watts, L.L.P., also represents victims of environmental
pollution and contamination in seeking compensation for
their damages and injures.
The firm assists clients in real
estate transactions to ensure their protection against
potential environmental liabilities arising out of those transactions.
Hudson & Watts, L.L.P. spearheaded the formation of the
two most prominent and important networks of business and
industry in the area relating to the environment - "The
Forum" and "Partners in Environmental Progress."
The mission of these two organizations is to educate and encourage
its membership to maintain the highest degree of commitment
to protecting and improving the environment in this region.
The Forum is a non-profit corporation comprised of all of
the chemical, paper and pulp mill, and shipbuilding businesses,
as well as public utilities, construction companies, and environmental
engineering firms in the area, all participating at the owner
or plant manager level. Partners in Environmental Progress
is a non-profit corporation comprised of numerous other businesses,
participating on an owner basis, that serve industry in the
southern Alabama region. Hudson & Watts, L.L.P., serves
as general counsel for both of these organizations.
Hudson & Watts, L.L.P., is also committed to the education
of lawyers and other professionals in the field of environmental
law, through publications in leading law journals and lecturing
at numerous legal seminars.
